Based at our Midtown Manhattan office, the Green Building Field Specialist works in large buildings to survey mechanical equipment and test building systems to support a larger goal of reducing energy use and carbon emissions. The Green Building Field Specialist documents and surveys existing building HVAC equipment (e.g., boilers, domestic hot water heaters, pumps, motors, fans, etc.), lighting, and facade conditions. They also test HVAC equipment to improve its performance and complete data entry for energy studies and potential engineering projects. The Green Building Field Specialist supports the ENPG team on a variety of projects.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Survey and collect data during on-site building inspections to document existing systems and associated equipment for HVAC and mechanical systems (such as boilers, steam distribution systems, domestic hot water heaters, pumps, motors, fans, lighting, etc.)
  • Test equipment (such as heating systems like boilers) to ensure optimal performance and identify needed repairs for NYC Local Law 87 compliance
  • Participate in energy audits and site assessments of building systems (such as NYC Local Law 87 compliance) to evaluate energy use and identify improvements to lower energy and carbon emissions
  • Organize, file, and store data and photographs collected on site
  • Assist energy engineers, auditors, and project managers on building energy related projects to ensure compliance and proper completion of repairs and upgrades
  • Perform other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Job Requirements:

  • Minimum high school diploma; associates degree in building science (or equivalent) or other relevant technical field a plus
  • Previous 6-12+ months of experience in the building, HVAC, or energy field
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and lighting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Certified as OSHA-10 prior to or within 6 months of employment
  • Possess ability to perform physical tasks including but not limited to: Standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time, reading and recording information on handwritten forms and computer screens, using hand tools (such as powered tools, measuring devices, etc.), lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, navigating in small/enclosed places, climbing stairs and ladders, and working in loud, warm and cold environments
  • Travel to client sites primarily within New York City
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
